Vocational Education and Training (VET) Center in Poznan

Grounds for establishing the Vocational Education and Training (VET) Center in Poznan

The challenges of the modern labour market largely rely on creating employment security, understood as equipping people with appropriate skills that will help them find their first or another job. This process is influenced by local environment, qualifications and competences of job candidates, as well as their expectations, activity, mobility and a set of interpersonal characteristics.

The Sejmik of the Wielkopolska Province has decided to establish 5 organizational units whose task is to coordinate dual and vocational education, namely Vocational Education and Training Centers. It was the first initiative of that kind in Poland.

The first centers were opened on May 1, 2017 in Poznan and Kalisz, the next ones were opened in Konin on October 1, 2017, and on January 1, 2018 in Leszno and Pila.

The VET Center in Poznan covers 11 counties: Poznan, Gniezno, Wrzesnia, Sroda Wielkopolska, Srem, Grodzisk Wielkopolski, Wolsztyn, Nowy Tomysl, Miedzychod, Szamotuly and Oborniki. Its main task is the vocational activation of young people, assistance in choosing the educational path and cooperation with local entrepreneurs within the framework of apprenticeships, internships, as well as organizing educational workshops. This goal is achieved by integrating the groups of Entrepreneurs, Craft Chambers, Vocational Schools and other supporting institutions and the dissemination of the vocational and dual education model.

The multi-factor tasks set for the Vocational Education and Training Center in Poznan are primarily to create favourable conditions for co-operation among employers, VET schools, Craft Guilds and Labour Offices, which will lead to the creation of an educational and vocational information portal of Wielkopolska Province.

The Employment Strategy for Wielkopolska Province assumes in the next few years an intelligent and sustainable development, which will boost the possibilities and resources of the labour market in all counties and regions. The analysis of the  situation of young people, in particular post-primary school graduates, on the labour market has led to the conclusion that there is a strong link between the vocational education system and the employment market, and, therefore, the development of dual education has become crucial.

The close cooperation between the School and the Employer is an inseparable element of creating the prosperous future for a young person and will enable Entrepreneurs to join the teaching process. Employers will have the opportunity to actively participate in education and, consequently, recruit qualified employees with practical knowledge in a given profession. The Vocational Education and Teaching Center in Poznan will play a linking part in this process, performing an informational, advisory, educational, activating, supporting, integrating and coordinating function.

The activities carried out by VET Center in Poznan will enhance the creation of opportunities for acquiring skilled and experienced employees, and will help to keep the balance between supply and demand on the market.

In relation to the current situation on the labour market, the creation of the Vocational Education and Teaching Center in Poznan will be an added value in the next years of professional activity for many young people, as well as an information bank for Entrepreneurs and Institutions supporting the local economy and the labour market.
